Care home staff win top awards

TWO members of staff at the same care home were celebrating after picking up awards.

Judith Tulley, deputy manager at Sheraton Court Care Home, in Hartlepool, and Jackie Kitching, a care assistant at the home, were both victorious at the Helen McArdle Care Recognition Awards.

Judith was crowned Deputy Manager of the Year and Jackie was named Care Assistant of the Year.

And in a further boost for the Warren Road care home, Sheraton Court only narrowly missed out on being named Care Home of the Year after being nominated and manager Carole Thomson was also a nominee in the Care Home Manager of the Year category.

More than 200 Helen McArdle Care staff from across the region attended the ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, in Gateshead.

Organisers said awards handed out on the evening recognised a high quality of care, catering, housekeeping, nursing, activities and management.

Award winner Judith Tulley said: “I was pleasantly shocked to win the award on the night, I was honoured just to be nominated.

“The night itself was amazing and I was so proud of Jackie Kitching for also winning an award, as well as all of the staff who were nominated and shortlisted.

“I would also like to thank Helen (McArdle) for giving the staff this opportunity to be recognised for all the hard work they do.”

Residents, family members, healthcare professionals and staff nominated those who they thought deserved to win an award throughout November and December last year.

Senior managers then shortlisted nominees and staff were invited for interviews to determine the winners.

Helen McArdle, chairman and founder of Helen McArdle Care, said: “Over the last 25 years we have won many national and regional awards for the care that we provide in our homes and while these awards are very special to us, they couldn’t be won without the dedication, care and motivation of our staff.

“The night was a huge success and we are thrilled to see so many of the staff enjoying themselves and also being very supportive of their colleagues who had been nominated.”
